Get your professional firefighter certification by combining hands-on training with self-study. Get hired as a firefighter by learning the required skills.

Canpro OHS has teamed up with S.M.A.R.T. EMS to provide the S.M.A.R.T. Firefighter training program. The S.M.A.R.T. Firefighter training program is structured to give students every advantage over traditional programs. This training is now offered in British Columbia.

In discussion with many different fire departments across Canada, the qualities most sought after were those of Character, Fire Skills, Knowledge, and Communication Skills.  With this information in hand, it is our mandate to focus on these areas in our program.

The Firefighter Advantage program is a collection of the following programs, each independently approved and accredited for certification.

  • NFPA 1001 - Firefighter Level I & II
  • NFPA 472 - Hazmat Awareness & Operations
  • Firefighter Skills
  • Incident Command System 100
  • Rope Rescue
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Resume Writing Clinic
  • Interview Skills Clinic
  • Leadership Development Clinic

The above courses are structured into a three phase format that allows for maximum student efficiency and learning.  The overall time frame for completion is dependent on each student but could be completed in as little as 3 - 4 months part time.

Phase #1:
Online Theory - Much of the required theory for firefighting can be learned using an interactive self-study format.  This allows each student to access their work at any time 24 hours per day.  Students can use their time most efficiently and complete this component when suitable.  Sometimes "Life" happens and being stuck in a classroom all week is not feasible.  This along with the fact that our students typically are exposed to this theory an average of 7 - 8 times throughout the program give our students a distinct advantage when it comes time for any written exams.

Phase #2:
Firefighting Skills - Phase #2 does not necessarily mean Stage #2.  The firefighter skills training should be done simultaneously with the online theory components.  These skills are done with full firefighting turn-out gear and equipment.  Theory is important, but it is the hands-on skills that allow students to put everything into context and learn best.

Phase #3:
Skills Camp - To complete the NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II Certification and be able to obtain IFSAC seals, students must complete a 2 week Skills Camp just outside of Dallas, TX.  Advantages of this camp include free meals, free accommodations, and one of the highest IFSAC pass ratings in the world.

WARNING!: This is not a typical online program.
This program is meant to provide an alternative or addition to other training programs (online or otherwise).  Once again, we have found that students learn best from hands-on training.  They also have greater success securing employment with HR Training and improving on the qualities of Character, Honour, Respect, Integrity, Service, and Teamwork.
