Promoting Respect in the Workplace & Preventing Violence

Recent unfortunate incidents have brought the issue of appropriate workplace conduct to the forefront.  How staff communicate with, and respond to colleagues can at times present unique challenges for employers.

To help employers ensure a safe and respectful workplace, Canpro Training Resources Inc. has developed a highly interactive one-day workshop, Promoting Respect in the Workplace & Preventing Violence.  In the first three months of 2006, we delivered this workshop over forty times for a key uniformed emergency services provider here in British Columbia.

A review of over five hundred recent workshop participant evaluation/feedback forms demonstrates our level of success in this sensitive topic:

Canpro Training Resources Inc. developed Promoting Respect in the Workplace & Preventing Violence over the course of many months, utilizing employer focus groups, staff surveys, and a dozen pilot versions of the workshop.  The final result is a dynamic, participant-centered learning experience that encompasses:

  1. Appropriate workplace behaviours
  2. Violence and the threat of violence in the workplace
  3. Reporting, documenting and responding to incidents
  4. WorkSafeBC (formerly WCB) related regulations
  5. Related employer policies and procedures
  6. Situational awareness in anxious, hostile, threatening encounters
  7. Verbal and physical distraction techniques for managing and escaping from threatening/violent incidents and attacks
  8. Applying policy to case studies

By focusing on key workplace issues that matter a great deal to all workers, participant buy-in is gained immediately.

Promoting Respect in the Workplace & Preventing Violence is supported by a detailed participant workbook that is customized to the unique needs, issues and policies of the employer.
